Mark 3:20-35
Third Sunday after Pentecost

Pastor's sermon begins at the 14:43 mark and is based on the Gospel lesson. By the third chapter of Mark, the family of Jesus is very concerned about him. They may be worried about the fickle crowds who adore Jesus one day, but just might turn on him the next day. We readers of Mark’s Gospel may recall that shouts of: “Hosanna!” can turn into shouts of: “Crucify him!” Perhaps the Lord’s family is worried that their beloved Jesus is making the wrong kind of enemies among the powers that be. Maybe the family just wants to get Jesus home where it is somewhere normal and safe. Whatever the motives, Jesus isn’t going to put up with his opponents, nor his family interrupting the proclamation of God’s kingdom, despite the hope and disruptions it creates.
