Luke 13:10-17
Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

Pastor's sermon is based upon the gospel lesson, where Luke reports, “The entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that Jesus was doing." Jesus demonstrates to the crowd that keeping the Sabbath holy is not about observing rules and "thou shalt nots." Keeping the Sabbath holy is about worshiping God by releasing people from bondage and giving them new lives, so they, too, can praise God. By healing the crippled woman on the Sabbath, Jesus is keeping the third commandment, not breaking it. Nowadays, we keep the Sabbath holy by sharing our time, talents, and treasure on projects within our walls and outside our walls that demonstrate God's care for this world. We praise God as we serve our neighbor. We thank God by loving our neighbor. That’s what Jesus teaches us. That’s how we worship God, and that's how we keep the Sabbath holy. Amen!
