Matthew 11:2-11
Third Sunday of Advent

The sermon by Pastor is based on the gospel lesson from Matthew 11:2-11. We readers of Matthew should have little doubt that Jesus is the Messiah by the time we read today’s Gospel text in the 11th chapter. Chapters 5 through 7 had those beautiful words by Jesus within the Sermon on the Mount.  Matthew then described the Lord’s mighty deeds in chapters 8 and 9. These miracles by Jesus were all signs foretold by the prophet Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah. Chapter 10 goes on to describe how Jesus gave authority to the disciples to carry out this ministry. John the Baptist is in prison in chapter 11, wondering if Jesus is truly the Messiah. Two thousand years later, we Christians are called to: follow Jesus the Messiah, carry out His healing message, and minister to the needy. Pastor finishes with a story illustrating that the Holy Spirit is alive and well, calling and sending people to help.
