Mark 7:24-37
Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

The sermon by Pastor is based upon the gospel lesson from Mark 7:24-37. It may be hard for us to relate to the Syrophoenician woman in the story. Maybe we cannot see ourselves as beggars. It’s true that when Martin Luther died, he had a piece of paper in his pocket that had the following six words written on it: “We’re all beggars, this is true.” From this perspective, we can better hear the gospel offered to us this morning. Allowing ourselves to be like this pleading woman, our gospel is one of astonishing grace that God has actually bent his ear even to us and showers upon us healing, forgiveness, and eternal life. Amen!
