Numbers 21:4-9
Fourth Sunday in Lent

Pastor's sermon is based on the first reading from Numbers 21:4-9. Moses can never satisfy the Israelites, who complain about the food and water supply after God rescued them from slavery in Egypt. And then along comes a plague of serpents, biting and poisonous. And the Israelites blame God. They figured that after all their complaining, God must’ve made a deal with Moses to bring these snakes out among them. Whether God did that is debatable, but what happens next is God’s redemption. Those bitten by the snakes only had to look on a bronze serpent, lifted high upon a pole, and they would be healed. Today our healing comes from Jesus Christ, the great physician, who was lifted high upon the cross and died for our salvation. Amen.
