John 1:6-8, 19-28
Third Sunday of Advent

The sermon by Pastor is based on the Gospel reading from John. We rejoice today as we approach the manger at Bethlehem. It’s where we will meet the babe named Emmanuel, which means God-With-Us. But we can’t get there without first hearing the testimony of a witness named John, a “voice” in the wilderness. The story of Christ’s coming into the world begins with a human voice. I suppose that’s the way it’s always been with the story of Jesus Christ. Some human being, some “voice,” has got to tell you the story of Jesus. Because you can’t make it up yourself. This faith can only be received from the hands of another. It takes some voice, some witness, for you to be able to see the light. Somebody has got to tell you. Thanks be to God for witnesses! Amen.
