Pastor's sermon is based on the gospel reading. Knowing about God is no easy task. For one thing, God is God and we’re not! Only God can speak accurately and truthfully of God. Knowledge of the truth about God requires the descent and intervention of the Holy Spirit in order for the word of God to be received. We need external help to read and understand scripture. We need help to listen to and get anything out of a sermon. The distance between us and God can only be bridged by God. And in the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Counselor, that’s just what has happened. Christ promises to send you all the help you need to be sure about God’s closeness to you.
