Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16
Second Sunday in Lent

Pastor's sermon is based on the first lesson from Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16.  In the chapter following our first reading, in Genesis 18:13, Sarah laughs as she asks God, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?” In a way, it’s kind of surprising that this story occurs within our assigned Bible readings during Lent, because it could also be considered an Easter text with its promise of life out of death, and hope for the future out of what was previously considered to be a dreary dead end. Through the miraculous, even laughable work of God, Sarah and Abraham’s family will go on, and will one day be a great blessing to all the nations. Amen!
