Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Pastor’s sermon is based on the gospel reading.  When we hear the Parable of the Wheat among the Weeds, we may feel like we’re stuck in a world that’s ignored by God. We helplessly watch weeds grow up like enemies all around us. And yet, the parable contains the promise that, in the wisdom of God, the weeds will ultimately be destroyed. Evil is temporary and only the good will endure. The parable leads finally to a place of JOY and HOPE. Yes, we DO live in an imperfect world. It’s a world in which no human effort can completely fix. But that was never our job anyway. Instead, we are given the task of living out our baptisms into Christ as faithfully and obediently as possible, confident in the sure harvest to come.  Amen.
