Pastor’s sermon is based on the gospel reading from Matthew 28:16-20. Matthew’s Gospel has a special emphasis on teaching. So, it makes sense that Matthew would end it by emphasizing the importance of teaching. Teaching involves spending time with people. It involves patience and being in constant dialogue. just like Jesus did with his disciples. Our Baptism is generally thought of as: “becoming a member of a church.” It should really be thought of as “being initiated into the teaching of the church.” When babies are baptized in the Lutheran Church, their parents make promises to teach them and to bring them to church, so that the church can do its part in teaching. Through baptizing and teaching, new disciples are made.
