Pastor’s sermon is based upon the gospel lesson of John 9:1-41. Within John’s gospel, the movement from darkness to light is both physical and spiritual. Today’s gospel lesson is a good illustration of Jesus’ claim, “I am the light of the world.” The formerly blind man’s gradual awareness of who Jesus is comes after he first sees with his own eyes. You can almost picture his face growing brighter with each a-ha moment. This is what faith is like for most of us. Here’s a challenge for you: Sometime this week, try writing yourself a letter entitled: “How my faith has changed or grown.” Include those mountain-top experiences you may have had. Add in the a-ha moments, as well as when your faith seemed to hit rock bottom. How does your story compare to the story of the man born blind?
