John 12:1-8 & Philippians 3:4b-14
Fifth Sunday in Lent

Pastor's sermon is based on both the gospel reading and the second lesson from Saint Paul's letter to the Philippians. Mary had something in common with Saint Paul. Both Paul and Mary knew the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus, our Lord. The sacrament of Holy Baptism is our invitation to participate in the Body of Christ. This includes worship, singing hymns, sharing in the Lord’s Supper, praying for one another, and serving all people, following the example of Jesus. Baptism is God’s invitation to the surpassing value of an abundant life of service, centered on the cross of Christ.
